Can-Am League Game Recaps
May 27, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Newark 2, Quebec 0
A seven inning, scoreless performance by Newark RHP Pedro Rivera (pictured) propelled the Bears to a slim, 2-0 victory over the Quebec Capitales. The Bears needed a strong outing from their starter, as Quebec RHP John Mariotti held Newark's bats to just four hits over six innings. Ultimately, Mariotti made just two mistakes. The first mistake came in the fourth inning, when Bears' CF Quentin Davis broke the scoring drought with a lead-off solo home run. Two innings later, Davis scored on a double by 1B Daryle Ward. On top of the home run and the run scored, Davis was the only Newark hitter to record a multi-hit game against Mariotti. Rivera improved to 1-1 with the win. RHP Jorge Vasquez threw the final two innings to earn his fifth save of the season.
Worcester 9, Rockland 3
The Rockland Boulders battled back, but could not withstand a pair of late rallies by Worcester, as the Tornadoes won, 9-3. Worcester opened the scoring in the second, when Rockland RHP Bobby Blevins loaded the bases on a single and two walks. 3B Ryan Mollica then committed an error to score C Alex Trezza. The walks and miscue paved the way for three unearned runs and an early 4-0 lead for the Tornadoes. The Boulders chipped at the lead with one-run innings in the fourth, sixth and seventh. Worcester, however, retained the lead and pulled away with two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth. The ninth inning rally that secured the win was capped by back-to-back RBI doubles by 2B Brandon Pinckney and CF Jerod Edmonson. RHP Dan Sausville picked up his second win of the season, allowing one earned run through six innings of work.
