Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY - The Louisville Bats set out Tuesday night looking for a four-game sweep of the Columbus Clippers, but it wasn't to be as the Clippers defeated the Bats 3-2 in front of a crowd of 8,147. Alberto Gonzalez's RBI double in the sixth was the difference in denying Adam Pettyjohn his 15th win, which would have tied the franchise record in a season.

The Bats wasted no time in putting up the game's first run. Leadoff batter Luis Bolivar started the bottom of the first with a double into deep left field and advanced to third when Clipper starting pitcher Andrew Kown was called for a balk. One out later, Drew Anderson singled to left, driving in Bolivar, making the score 1-0.

The Clippers responded two innings later by putting up a pair of runs and taking the lead.

Leonard Davis started the bottom of the third by lining his fifth homer of the year into the right field seats. David Wallace then doubled to center and advanced to third on an Andrew Kown sacrifice bunt. Roger Bernadina then singled to right, scoring Wallace, giving the Clippers a 2-1 lead.

The Bats offense answered in the bottom of the fifth when Bolivar ripped his second double of the game to left field with two outs. Drew Stubbs then came through with a clutch single to center, scoring Bolivar and tying the game at two. The hit extended Stubbs hitting streak to a season-high seven games.

Columbus didn't waste any time in getting the run back as they retook the lead in the top of the sixth. Bernadina led the inning off with a single to center and was immediately followed by Gonzalez's RBI double, giving Columbus a 3-2 lead.

Pettyjohn (14-6 4.63) gave Louisville another quality start in his bid to tie the franchise record, but fell just short in receiving the loss. He threw seven innings, giving up seven hits, and three earned runs. He struck out a season high 10 batters and didn't allow a walk.

For Columbus, Kown (2-0, 2.45) recorded his second win of the year, going five solid innings, giving up seven hits, and two earned runs. He struck out seven and walked none. Brian Sanches came on in the ninth to record his 13th save.

The Bats hit the road for the final time in a four-game series at Indianapolis starting tomorrow night. LHP Bobby Livingston (3-3 4.98) will get the start for the Bats against Indians RHP Daniel McCutchen (6-8, 3.94). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
