LOUISVILLE, KY—Matt Belisle, recently named the International League's Pitcher-of-the-Week (April 19-25), held Indianapolis scoreless for the game's first six innings Monday night as Louisville (7-10) defeated Indianapolis (10-5), 6-2.

Belisle (2-2) pitched 7.2 innings and allowed one Indianapolis earned run. He surrendered six hits, walked two Indians and struck out four visitors.

While Belisle kept the Indians in check, Louisville received timely hitting from left fielder Steve Smitherman. Smitherman plated the first run of the game, scoring on Dane Sardinah's triple off Tribe starter Matt Childers in the Bats' second inning.

Smitherman finished the game two for four, including a key two-run double in the home fifth inning.

"I've been struggling lately," said Smitherman. "I was trying to see a good pitch to hit. I was able to get good wood on a couple of balls and it paid off for us tonight."

Indianapolis pitcher Matt Childers (2-2) received his first start of the season. Childers pitched well for four innings, allowing the single Louisville run in the second.

The Bats knocked Childers out of the game in the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Felipe Lopez started the four-run burst with a single, then scored on Tim Hummel's RBI double. Jim Chamblee added an RBI single before Smitherman smashed a two-run double off Tribe reliever Dan Reichert.

Indianapolis scored a pair of runs in the eighth. Matt Erickson had an RBI single, scoring Luis Figueroa with the Tribe's first run. Erickson later scored when Smitherman bobbled a Chris Magruder base hit.

The two clubs complete a two-game road series Tuesday. Indianapolis will send Ben Hendrickson (2-0, 1.10) against Louisville starter Brandon Claussen (0-1, 3.31).
