MIRACLE LEAGUE CHECK PRESENTATION TONIGHT
Hooks' Field of Dreams Beneficiary to Receive Funds
The Miracle League of Corpus Christi receives a check for $15,000 at tonight's 7:05 start between the Hooks and Frisco at Whataburger Field. Hooks president and general manager J.J. Gottsch will make the presentation to Brian Devaney.
This summer, construction is expected to begin in southwest Corpus Christi on a cushioned, rubberized Miracle League field. The site is on Airport Road between Old Brownsville Road and Greenwood Drive, across from Gabe Lozano, Sr., Golf Course.
The Miracle League movement began nine years ago in Rockdale County, Georgia. It enables all children to play baseball regardless of ability. The disabled benefit from the injury-preventing surface - which is completely flat - and wheelchair accessible dugouts.
The Evening Rotary Club of Corpus Christi, of which Devaney is president, is partnering with the Hooks on this project.
Proceeds from January's South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet and the Astros Caravan Luncheon in February help fund Miracle League field construction.
