
Barrero Named Triple-A East Player of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats today announced that shortstop and top Cincinnati Reds prospect Jose Barrero has been named the Triple-A East Player of the Week for the period of July 26 - Aug. 1.
Barrero hit .458 (11-for-24) during the week with six runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs, three stolen bases and a .519 on-base percentage. The top prospect hit safely in five of six games with four multi-hit efforts, highlighted by a four-hit game on July 28 at Iowa in which he doubled, homered and produced a career-high six RBIs.
Barrero shared the league lead in hits and total bases (20) for the period. He also finished the week ranked among the top five Triple-A East hitters in batting average (2nd), stolen bases (T-2nd), RBIs (T-3rd), runs (T-4th), slugging (.833, 4th), OPS (1.352, 4th) and doubles (T-5th).
The weekly award caps a torrid stretch for the top prospect in which he reached base safely in a team season-high 23 straight games from July 3 - 30. He is also currently third in all of Minor League Baseball in base hits since the middle of July, totaling 28 base knocks in 17 games dating to July 15.
Barrero is the first Bats player to win a weekly award during the 2021 season and first position player overall since outfielder Narciso Crook for the period of July 15 - 21, 2019.
