Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons will play in the West Division of the Western Conference for the 2013-14 season, the American Hockey League announced today at the Board of Governors meetings in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Oklahoma City remains in a division that includes the Texas Stars, San Antonio Rampage and Charlotte Checkers. Joining those four teams in the West Division will be the Abbotsford Heat. The Iowa Wild, re-located from Houston, move from a division with the Barons into the Midwest Division with the Chicago Wolves, Grand Rapids Griffins, Rockford IceHogs and Milwaukee Admirals. Rounding out the Western Conference is the North Division that features the Hamilton Bulldogs, Toronto Marlies, Rochester Americans, Lake Erie Monsters and Utica Comets.
The division lineup in the Eastern Conference is unchanged. The Connecticut Whale did undergo a name change back to the Hartford Wolfpack.
The format for the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs was also approved by the Board of Governors, and remains the same as 2013: Eight teams in each conference will qualify for the postseason, with the three division winners earning the top three seeds and the next five best teams in order of regular-season points seeded fourth through eighth. The conference quarterfinals will be best-of-five series; the conference semifinals, conference finals and Calder Cup Finals will be best-of-seven series. Teams will be re-ordered after the first round so that the highest-remaining seed plays the lowest-remaining seed.
Hockey season begins in Oklahoma City on Friday, September 27 with the NHL Showcase presented by Mercy when the Edmonton Oilers host the Dallas Stars in an NHL Preseason game. For more information about tickets, call the Barons office at 232-GOAL.
Oklahoma City opens their 38-game home schedule with a weekend set of games October 4 and 5. In addition to the home opener, the Barons are scheduled to play at home November 12, 15 and 16 and December 20 and 21. The Barons annual Education Field Trip Day will be November 12. The remainder of the schedule will be announced later this summer.
