Barons to join Red Cross in season opener

CLEVELAND - Cleveland Barons President Michael T. Lehr announced today that the club, along with the entire American Hockey League, will partner with the American Red Cross for their home opener on October 8th to raise funds for local relief efforts.

As part of the fundraiser, all Barons Charities proceeds from the concourse activities, such as chuck-a-puck and the prize wheel will go the American Red Cross, Greater Cleveland Chapter relief efforts.

Across the American Hockey League, the captains of each team will be wearing an American Red Cross patch to the left of their captains "C". The jerseys worn by each team captain will then be autographed and auctioned off on the AHL website with all proceeds going toward American Red Cross Hurricane Relief. In addition, all AHL players will have an American Red Cross decal on their helmet to show their support for the cause.

In appreciation of their tireless efforts, representatives of the American Red Cross, Greater Cleveland Chapter will drop a ceremonial puck as the Barons season gets underway against the Rochester Americans.

Currently, there are 600 people displaced into Cleveland from the southern US due to hurricanes. The Red Cross is also active in local disaster relief efforts, such as helping families recover from fires and other natural and man-made disasters.

"From day one, this organization has been dedicated to helping those in the Cleveland community," stated Lehr. "We are extremely happy to partner with the Red Cross to assist them in the work they do for this city."

The Barons will open their 2005-06 Regular Season schedule on the National City Rink located in Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday, October 8th against the Rochester Americans at 7:05pm.
