October 6, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will be holding their first open tryout for the upcoming 2006 af2 season. Tryouts are scheduled for November 12, 2005 and registration will begin promptly at 9:00 am.
"We will be signing players from this tryout," said Pioneers Head Coach Rich Ingold. "In the past I have had great success finding players in these open tryouts. In 2003, I found two receivers who caught for over 1,000 yards, one of whom is playing in the AFL today."
The Pioneers have signed several players to the team's roster that were discovered through past free agent tryouts, including Saint Francis lineman Keith Glover, former Notre Dame kicker Stefan Schroffner, 2003 Most Improved Player Glester Thorpe, and 2002 Team MVP John Knust.
Players interested in tryouts must be prompt and come prepared with registration fee, work out gear and spikes/turf shoes. There will be a $40 registration fee. Players with any questions about tryouts or the testing format are encouraged to contact Pioneers Head Coach Rich Ingold at (570) 760-3608.
