Daum tabs Law as captain
October 6, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON, Texas - Houston Aeros head coach Rob Daum has named Kirby Law the team's captain for the 2005-06 season. This will mark Law's second straight season as the captain. In addition, Daum named Curtis Murphy, Kurtis Foster and Erik Westrum alternate captains. Murphy will wear the "A" during all games, while Foster will don it at home and Westrum on the road.
Daum, who is in his first season, said he took input from his entire team, along with information he compiled along with assistant coach Matt Shaw.
"You want to get a feel for what the team thinks, and then combine that with your own thoughts and come up with a consensus between the two," Daum said. "That's what we've done."
Daum looks upon these players - four of Houston's six "veteran players" - to do many things in 2005-06.
"Leadership on any team is huge, and on our team it's no exception," he said. "These are older, experienced players. We also have players on the other side of the ledger who are younger and inexperienced. We need these leaders to not only contribute what they bring to the table, but also to help our younger players improve. We have a solid core of players to do that."
