CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Greg Labenski. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Labenski, 25, split last season between the Cleveland Barons and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. The 6'1", 199-pound defenseman made seven tours-of-duty with the Barons during 2002-03 appearing in 10 games and recording 15 penalty minutes. With the Cincinnati Cyclones, Labenski played 69 games and recorded 35 points on 14 goals and 21 assists with 173 penalty minutes. In the playoffs, Labenski played 15 games and recorded 32 penalty minutes.
In total, Labenski has played in 18 career games in the American Hockey League. In 18 games, Labenski has notched 1 goal and 2 assists with 40 penalty minutes. In three full ECHL seasons, the fourth-year pro has totaled 207 games, 26 goals, 57 assists and 390 PIM.
"Greg is an aggressive defenseman who moves the puck well," stated Thomas. "He will add a great deal of stability on our blueline."
