Barons Ink DiSalvatore

CLEVELAND - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed right wing Jon DiSalvatore. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In 2002-03, DiSalvatore, 22, posted 48 points (19 goals, 29 assists) in 36 games with Providence College. His totals ranked him first on the team in points (48), assists (29), power play goals (7) and shots (146), as well as second in goals (19).

DiSalvatore also ranked fifth in shots (146), ninth in goals (19), tied for fourth in assists (29), tied for sixth in power play goals (7) and fourth in total points (48) in Hockey East. He earned Hockey East Honorable Mention honors and was a finalist for the Walter Brown Award for the second consecutive season, an award given annually to the best American-born college player in New England.

The six-foot-one, 185-pound native of South Windsor, Connecticut was originally selected by San Jose in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft (fourth round, 104th overall). Past fourth-round selections by San Jose include Vesa Toskala (1995), Rob Davison (1998), Miroslav Zalesak (1998), and Willie Levesque (1999), all who have made an impact with the Barons. In addition, DiSalvatore will join Christian Ehrhoff (2001) and Dimitri Patzold (2001) as former fourth-round selections that will make their professional debuts this season.
