Birmingham Barons News Release

The Barons came within one out of recording their second-consecutive shut out, but still held on to beat the Montgomery Biscuits 6-1 Saturday night at Regions Park.

Lucas Harrell (7-2, 3.14) became the first pitcher in the Southern League to record seven wins. Pitching one night after the Aaron Poreda tossed six-shutout innings against the Biscuits, Harrell was even better. The righty allowed a season-low two hits while shutting out the Biscuits offense through eight innings. He struck out three and walked none.

The Barons gave Harrell run support early, scoring in each of the first three innings while knocking out Biscuits' starter Brandon Mann (4-3, 4.34) out of the game. The home team rocked the visiting pitcher for seven hits and five runs during his short stint on the mound.

Jordan Danks, John Shelby and CJ Retherford each added two hits. Danks and Javier Colina collected two RBI apiece.

The Barons improved to 25-0 when scoring six-or-more runs.

Dayan Viciedo's hitting streak ended at 11 as the Cuban Tank went 0-for-4.

Fernie Hernandez gave up a two-out, run-scoring triple to Jason Bowers that ended the shutout bid. The Barons held the Biscuits scoreless for the first 17.2 innings of the series.

The Barons and Biscuits continue their five-game series with a 2:05 PM game on Sunday. John Ely (6-1, 3.58) looks to join Lucas Harrell in the seven-win club when he squares off against Heath Rollins (5-4, 4.33).
