
Stars come back to beat Jaxx Saturday night

JACKSON, TENN - The first place Huntsville Stars (32-22) continue their domination over the Diamond Jaxx (22-34) with a 7-5 win on Saturday night. The Diamond Jaxx have dropped their last four games in a row, and are now 11 games behind the Stars in the North Division.
It did not take the Jaxx long to break out of the current funk they had been in at the plate. In the first inning Oswaldo Navarro reached on a single with one out. Marshall Hubbard then took a pitch from Donovan Hand and dispensed it over the right field wall and giving the Jaxx an early 2-0 lead.
Huntsville grabbed a run in the top of the third inning on a homerun by outfielder, Chuck Coufield (3). The long ball brought the Stars within a run. The Stars picked up single runs in the fifth and a SAC fly off the bat of Chuckie Caufield in the sixth inning. The Stars led 3-2 going into the eighth.
Huntsville's Chuck Caufield who went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI's doubled after Taylor Green opened the inning with the walk. With runners on second and third Yamid Haad was called for a passed ball scoring Green then Caufield scored on a wild pitch by Jaxx pitcher, Joe Newby. The Stars picked up two more runs in the inning on a Kevin Mellillo two-RBI single. Heading into the bottom of the eighth the Stars led 7-2.
The Diamond Jaxx fought back in the bottom of the eighth. Mel Stocker opened the inning reaching on a dropped third strike. Oswaldo Navarro singled, then Marshall Hubbard was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Brent Johnson was hit by a pitch from Juan Sandavol scoring Stocker. Casey Baron replaced Sandavol and gave up back-to-back RBI groundouts from Johan Limonta and Leury Bonilla. As the game moved to the ninth inning the Jaxx trailed the Stars 7-5.
Robert Hinton dealt a perfect ninth inning and picking up his seventh save of the season. Donovan Hand (4-1) went six innings for the Stars and picked up the win. Hand gave up just two runs on five hits and struck out two. Diamond Jaxx starter Steve Bray picks up a no decision. Bray goes five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. The loss is charged to Mumba Rivera (5-5) who gave a run in the sixth inning. Rivera now leads the team in decisions with 10.
A double-header is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park, beginning at 2:05. This will mark the seventh double dip the Jaxx have played in this season. In game one the Jaxx will run out RHP Luis Munoz (1-2, 5.52) and the Stars will go with talented RHP Mike Jones (1-0, 3.50). In the second game, RHP Kyle Parker (2-2, 3.20) deals for the Jaxx and RHP Mike McClendon (3-1, 2.89) makes the spot start for Huntsville. The Stars have now taken the first 10 of 11 from the Jaxx.
