Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL â Birmingham and Chattanooga fought back and forth all night but in the end the Lookouts were able to post the 8-6 victory in front of 5,776 fans on Saturday night at the Hoover Met.
Offense was the name of the game for the evening. The Barons got on the board first when Scott Bikowski singled home Danny Sandoval in the first inning but the Lookouts answered back in the second with a RBI double by Guye Senjem to tie the score at one all.
Birmingham took the lead on a RBI groundout by Darron Ingram in the third only to see Chattanooga take the lead in the fourth with a RBI triple by Senjem and a run scoring single by Dane Sardinha. The Barons would not be outdone as they tied the game at three in the sixth on a RBI single by Chad Durham and then took the lead on a three-run bomb by Ingram in the seventh.
With a three run lead heading into the eighth, the Barons were in control of the game but couldn't hold on. Dernell Stenson launched a solo homer off Jim Bullard in the eighth to cut the lead to two as the game then moved to the ninth.
Barons closer, Royce Ring came on to close the door on Chattanooga but imploded. He gave up four straight singles to lead off the inning, then a sacrifice fly and two more singles as he relinquished four runs and the lead. After the dust cleared Ring blew his third save of year and picked up his third loss of the season after going just a third of an inning.
Lookout's reliever Brett Gray (2-2) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless eighth and David Gil picked up his 10 save despite loading the bases in the ninth.
Tomorrow the Barons send out LHP Heath Phillips (0-0, 0.00) to face RHP Ryan Mottl (1-3, 3.33). Game time is 2:00 PM and all the action can be heard on 101.1 FM "The Source" with Curt Bloom on the play-by-play.
