Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Chattanooga Lookouts were hitting on all cylinders as they defeated the Birmingham Barons by the score of 11-3 in front of 2,254 fans on Father's Day at the Hoover Met.

The Barons took a 1-0, first inning lead on a Scott Bikowski sac fly but the early lead would disappear quickly. The only other offense Birmingham could muster would be two runs in the eighth that scored on a throwing error and a Bikowski RBI single. By that point it was too little too late.

After spotting the Barons a one run lead, Lookout's starter Ryan Mottl (2-3) would settle down and toss seven strong innings without giving up an earned run. The Chattanooga bats would give him more than enough support.

Chattanooga scored two in the second on a Keith Mitchell two-run bomb to left, four in the fourth on six hits and an error, two in the sixth on a RBI double and single, two more in the seventh on a throwing error and one last run in the eighth on sac fly.

Through all this, Heath Phillips was making his Double-A debut on the mound for the Barons and was simply overmatched. The young hurler gave up eight runs on 14 hits over six innings. Reliever Rob Purvis came on to surrender three runs in two innings and Brandon O'Neal tossed a scoreless ninth.

Tomorrow the Barons look to avoid the sweep as they send out RHP Tetsu Yofu (4-4, 3.46) to face RHP Dustin Moseley (4-4, 4.24). Game time is 11:00 AM and all the action can be heard on 1260 AM with Curt Bloom on the play-by-play.
