
Barons Hosting First Ever WinterFest this Weekend at Myriad Gardens

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons host the first-ever WinterFest Weekend January 11 - 12 at the Myriad Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City. Following the game January 11, the Barons host a 24-hour skating festival at the Devon Skating Rink at Myriad Gardens. The skating festival features an opportunity to skate with Barons players, coaches and staff, skating demonstrations by Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club, hockey games with the Oklahoma City Youth Hockey Association and much more.
WinterFest 2014 starts following the Barons game January 11 against the Charlotte Checkers. Approximately one hour after the conclusion of the game, Barons players begin their round-the-clock skate. Fans are encouraged to come and skate with their favorite players at any time during the event. Donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to Oklahoma City Youth Hockey.
Admission to the event is free, while skate rental is $7. A silent auction will be available with items up for bids including an Edmonton Oilers jersey. All proceeds will benefit the Oklahoma City Youth Hockey Association. A complete schedule follows. The list of players scheduled to skate is subject to change based on injury or call up.
In addition to Barons players skating around the clock, there will be appearances by the University of Oklahoma Hockey team, members of the Oklahoma City Youth Hockey Association, Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club, athletes from the "Barons Buddies" program, members of Oklahoma City Police and Fire departments, active duty Military members, a demonstration of sled hockey and curling, an appearance by the Express Clydesdales, former Blazers players and Blazers coach Doug Sauter.
The final event of WinterFest 2014 is an outdoor hockey game featuring players from the 8-and-under division of the Oklahoma City Youth Hockey Association. Faceoff for this game is Sunday, January 12 at 5 p.m. This game will have all the trappings of a complete game including the presentation of the colors by the Canadian AWACS Detachment from Tinker Air Force Base, national anthem and music provided by DJ Jeremy Miller, intermissions with the Barons mascot Derrick the Mountain Lion and the Barons Ice Girls. The teams will be coached by the Barons coaching staff of Todd Nelson, Gerry Fleming and Rocky Thompson.
WinterFest Weekend begins Friday, January 10 when the Barons host Charlotte. Friday night is Barons Night with $2 draft beer and $1 hot dogs from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, January 11 the first 2,000 fans through the doors receive a Barons fleece helmet hat. It's also a Drive Away every Saturday game as one lucky fan WILL drive away in a brand new Chrysler 200.
