Barons Forward Alex Giroux Named First Team AHL All Star
March 31, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Oklahoma City - Oklahoma City Barons winger Alexandre Giroux was named an American Hockey League First Team All Star, the league's front office announced today.
Giroux is making his third consecutive appearance on the AHL's First Team All Star Roster. Giroux joins forwards Pete Leswick and Art Stratton as the only forwards to be named First Team All Stars in three consecutive seasons. The AHL First and Second All Star Teams are decided by a league-wide vote from the players, media and coaches.
This season has been one of milestones for Giroux. On December 18, he became the 43rd player in AHL history to surpass the 600-point plateau. In late January, the 6-3, 202-pounder served as the playing captain for the Western Conference at the 2011 AHL All Star Classic.
Giroux leads the Barons in points (71), is second on the squad in goals (30) and assists (41). He is tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with seven and is second in the league with 14 power-play goals. Giroux is currently 10th in AHL history with 338 goals and is one of two players to record seven straight 30-goal seasons in the AHL. He appeared in eight games with the Edmonton Oilers this season, registering a goal and an assist.
Oklahoma City is in the thick of the playoff race in the West Division. Entering play this weekend, the Barons have 83 standings points with five games left to play. The Barons are tied with the Chicago Wolves and Peoria Rivermen for the final playoff spot in the West Division.
The Barons close out their home slate of games this weekend at the Cox Convention Center. Friday, the Barons take on the Rockford IceHogs, the AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks. Saturday, they close out their regular season with a tilt against the Texas Stars, AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Both games faceoff at 7:05 p.m.
