Birmingham Barons News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Birmingham Barons (18-28) pitching struggled again in their 7-3 loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts (24-21) Thursday night at AT&T Field.

With the game tied 3-3, the Lookouts took control and ran away in the bottom of the fifth. They chased Barons starter Jimmy Lambert from the game en route to a three run, two hit and three walk inning to go up 6-3.

Breaking the tie with the biggest hit was Lookouts Mitch Nay, who registered his ninth double of the season to score Taylor Trammell and Ibandel Isabel to make it 5-3. Two batters later, Calten Dahl singled home catcher Tyler Stephenson.

Much like the series opener Wednesday night, the Lookouts took an early lead in second inning Thursday. For the second time, Daal singled home catcher Tyler Stephenson to go up 1-0.

Isabel, the Lookouts first baseman and cleanup hitter, extended Chattanooga's lead one inning later with a two-run home run to also score Trammell and make it 3-0. For Isabel, it was his second homer of the series and No. 11 on the year to put him first in the Southern League.

Swinging a hot rod at the plate, Luis Basabe tied the game at three with a two-run single up the middle in the fifth to score Laz Rivera from third and Luis Robert from second.

For Basabe, it was the second time in as many nights he tied the game with one swing with the Barons trailing by two. Wednesday with Birmingham trailing 2-0, he tripled in the third inning to score two.

Barons first baseman Gavin Sheets got the Barons on the board first in the fourth, driving in Basabe on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.

It was a start to forget for Lambert. His 4.1 innings were his second shortest of the season and he surrendered a season high six runs.

In the last three games for Basabe, including Thursday, he has seven hits, six RBI and has fully woken up from his early season slump. With his RBI, Sheets tied the team lead with his 19 RBI.

The Barons struggles against Chattanooga continued, who now sit at 1-6 on the season against the Lookouts. Birmingham also allowed four stolen bases to Chattanooga, a new season high for the Barons.

The Barons will pick back up the series against the Lookouts on Friday at 6:15 p.m. Left-hander Kyle Kubat (2-1, 1.38) will make his fifth start as a Baron this season.

WJOX-AM 690 will be the home of the Barons on Friday. Fans can tune into the Coca-Cola Pregame Show starting at 6:00 p.m.

The Birmingham Barons are the proud Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The Barons will open the home portion of their 2019 season, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of Michael Jordan's lone year in baseball, against the Tennessee Smokies at 7:05 p.m. April 10 at Regions Field.
