SERIES PRIMER: The Generals visit the Montgomery Biscuits (AA, Tampa Bay Rays) for the first time in 2019. The two North Division playoff entrants from 2018 will play only 18 games this season, with just five of them coming in the First Half. Last season, Jackson went 9-11 in the regular season against the Biscuits before beating them 3-2 in the North Division Series en route to the title.

LAST GAME: The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, were frustrated by the talents of Curtis Taylor, Brendan McKay, and Phoenix Sanders on Wednesday, dropping their series opener to the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium, 3-0. The Generals (24-20) were shut out for the third time this season, while Montgomery (29-16) recorded their eighth blanking of a 2019 opponent.

TODAY'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Generals left-hander Bryan Valdez got a rude Double-A awakening against Tennessee last week, giving up four runs in 4 2/3 innings while failing to record a strikeout in his league debut. The Biscuits are hitting .259 against lefties this year. Against Valdez, Montgomery will start right-hander Riley O'Brien, who has put together back to back quality starts in his last two outings for the Biscuits. Jackson is hitting .224 against right-handers this year.

FOUR OR MORE: Through their first few weeks of the year, the Generals have been very successful in high-scoring games. When Jackson scores four or more runs, they've gone 18-1. When held to fewer than four runs, the Generals are just 6-19.
