Birmingham Barons News Release

With nothing left to play for in the first half, the Barons are finding motivation in keeping the Huntsville Stars from clinching the North Division First-Half Championship. The Barons beat the Stars for the fifth straight time Saturday night, 8-1 at Regions Park.

Daniel Hudson (1-0, 0.00) made a seamless transition in his first for the Double-A team. He allowed just one unearned run in seven innings and struck out eight batters - it marked his fourth consecutive start of striking out exactly eight batters; the previous three were with Winston-Salem.

The Barons took a 2-1 edge in the fifth inning when Jared Price parlayed a one-out double into the go-ahead run. The catcher took third on a CJ Lang groundout before scoring on a wild pitch from Bobby Bramhall.

The home team added six-insurance runs in the seventh inning with the aid of defensive miscues from the Stars. The Huntsville team provided two errors and a wild pitch in the frame. Javier Colina added a run-scoring single that was followed by a two-run double from Lee Cruz and a run-scoring single from Christian Marrero.

Dayan Viciedo provided his sixth home run in the fourth inning, a solo shot that tied the game at one a piece.

The Barons record now stands at a professional-best, 48-20 and have won 10-straight games. It is the team's longest streak since 2005.

The two teams will close out the first-half on Sunday. Kyle McCulloch (6-6, 3.98) will go for the Barons opposite Mark Holliman (4-2, 4.62) for the Stars.

Fans attending tomorrow's 2:05 PM contest will be able to play catch with their father on the field. The field will be open from 12-1 PM and for an hour following the contest. The first 500 dads to enter the ballpark will also receive a free baseball.
