November 3, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons program called "Barons Buddies" begins its fourth season on Wednesday, November 5 at the Cox Convention Center. The event will take place in the meeting rooms upstairs on the west side of the Cox Convention Center from 6 - 8:30 p.m.

The Barons Buddies program allows a family involved with Special Olympics Oklahoma to be "adopted" by a player on the Barons roster. The team hosts a series of events during the season that brings the families and players together for a fun night with their adopted player. The first event allows the athletes, families and the players to meet in a neutral environment to play games and even get a tour of the Barons locker room.

The second night in January is a bowling outing, the third allows the athletes and families to attend the Barons home game on Saturday, February 28 against San Antonio and the final night is an off-site pizza party near the end of the Barons regular season.

Over the last three seasons, the Barons and Special Olympics created memories for over 60 athletes and their families and raised over $80,000 in the process via the team wearing and auctioning one-of-a-kind jerseys.
