Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL â The Birmingham Barons knocked out 15 hits for the third time in the last four games and scored double-digit runs for the second night in a row as they dismantled the Chattanooga Lookouts 12-6 in front of 9.387 fans on Saturday night at the Hoover Met.
The Lookouts came out of the gate firing as they plated three runs in the first off of Yofu (9-7) before he could settle into a rhythm. The big hit came from Andrew Beattie who ripped a two-run double down the right-field line to make the score 3-0.
The Barons answered an inning later and in a big way. Birmingham would bat around in the inning and send 12 men to the plate and eight of them would score. The eight run inning was the biggest of the year for the Barons and featured two hits by Scott Bikowski and a two-run triple by Josh Shaffer.
Not long after the big outburst, the skies opened up and delayed the game for an 1:10. Despite the long delay, Yofu came back and continued pitch through fives innings and struck out a season-high 10 batters.
Barons outfielder Jeremy Reed ended the night going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI to raise his batting average to a lofty .417.
Lookout starter Daylan Childress (1-4) took one on the chin and lost after giving up eight earned runs in just two innings of work. Matt Smith threw three scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the season..
The Barons look to keep the winning ways going as they send out RHP Carlos Castillo (0-1, 6.75) to face RHP Josh Hall (7-8, 3.22). All the action can be heard on 101.1 FM "The Source" with Curt Bloom on the play-by-play.
