Lancaster Stormers News Release

After losing six straight, the Barnstormers relied on staff ace Denny Harriger to snap the skid. The right-hander did everything within his power to do so, pitching six strong innings, but the Road Warriors reached the Lancaster bullpen for three homers in the late innings, sending Lancaster to its seventh consecutive defeat, 10-4.

The loss dropped the Barnstormers (22-18) into a tie with the Camden Riversharks for first place in the Southern Division. Just a week ago, the Barnstormers division lead stood at six games.

Harriger allowed five hits and only one earned run, that on an opposite field homer by Teuris Olivares. The 37-year old right-hander departed with a 3-2 lead and gave the Barnstormers the hope of ending the skid.

David Housel, however, greeted Scott Sobkowiak (7-5) with a double to right center, and Sheldon Fulse followed with a two-run homer in the same direction. Later in the seventh, Bernie Gonzalez crushed a two-run homer to left center field off Chris Clem as the Road Warriors grabbed a 6-3 edge.

Lancaster got a run back on a towering homer to right center by Eric Crozier in the bottom of the seventh off eventual winner Miguel Martinez (1-4). It was all the Barnstormers could muster the rest of the night.

Ross Peeples, who had thrown eight consecutive scoreless appearances, took over in the eighth. Housel, leading off for the second straight inning, lifted a fly ball to deep center which turned Reggie Taylor around and was fumbled for an error. Fulse followed with a chopper over the left-hander's head which no one could chase down in time. Olivares drove in the inning's first run with a force play grounder. Mike Huggins then cleared the batter's eye in center for a 9-4 lead. An unearned run off Todd Pennington in the ninth closed out the scoring.

All of Lancaster's runs scored on extra-base hits. Jeremy Todd drilled an RBI double into the left field corner in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Lance Burkhart and Kris Dufner drove in consecutive runs on doubles just inside the left field line in the third staking Harriger to his 3-2 lead.
