Barnstormers Sign Standout Quarterback

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have signed quarterback Darius-James Peterson to the 2022 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.
Peterson (5-11, 155, College of Idaho) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his for his first season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Peterson spent four years at the College of Idaho. As a freshman, Peterson entered the rotation rushing for a team-high 848 yards and setting a school record with 17 rushing touchdowns. By his sophomore season he had earned the starting spot, having a record setting season rushing for 1,011 yards and 12 touchdowns while throwing for 1,820 yards and eight touchdowns combining for a school record 2,831 yards of total offense and becoming the fourth player in Yotes history to rush for 1,000 yards. Peterson carried his success into his junior year rushing for 822 yards and 13 touchdowns and passing for 1,998 yards and eight touchdowns earning Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week three times and NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week twice in the season. Peterson entered his senior season as the all-time leader in career passing yards with 4,483, total offense with 7,164, and rushing touchdowns with 42. Continuing his momentum, Peterson recorded 732 rushing yards for four touchdowns and 2,423 passing yards for 21 touchdowns.
Throughout his collegiate career, he racked up numerous awards including multiple Player of the Week honors, Second-Team All-Frontier as a junior, and multiple All-American honors and left as the Coyotes all-time leading passer and all-time leading rusher with the most touchdowns scored.
After college, Peterson earned a spot with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.
"DJP is an elite athlete who re-wrote the record book in college," said Head Coach Mogensen. "His ability to make plays with his feet and his arm is something that is going to give defenses fits in the IFL. I have no doubt after a banner season in 2022 he will make his way back to the CFL. I am so excited that he committed to the vision we have for the future of the Iowa Barnstormers."
Peterson is the first quarterback to enter the Iowa Barnstormers 2022 Training Camp.
