November 23, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Massachusetts Pirates News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates, Champions of the Indoor Football League, will have its championship banner on display at Boston's Logan International Airport.

In a press conference slated for Thursday, December 2 at 11:00 am, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) will honor the Bay State's latest champion by unfurling the banner from the rafters of Terminal C alongside those of Boston's other iconic franchises including the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox. The press conference will be open to the public.

Massachusetts won its first ever title by defeating the Arizona Rattlers in the United Bowl this past September as kicker Garrett Hartley booted a game winning 31-yard field goal in overtime for a 37-34 victory at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. Pirates quarterback Alejandro Bennifield was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

Jawad Yatim, the Founder, Co-Owner, President and General Manager of the organization sees the festivities on the first Thursday in December as a "red letter day" for the franchise.

"This is such an instrumental moment in Pirates history. We can't thank the Massport organization enough for their cooperation and willingness to work with us in being recognized alongside some of the most successful professional sports franchises in the world that reside here in our great state. It was a magical season for us and we are honored to have our banner hung alongside such prestigious organizations, that many of us grew up watching and rooting for. The visibility and exposure are crucial for us, and we are going to continue to work and compete extremely hard to ensure we are in a position to represent the bay state well and give ourselves a chance to relive this moment in the future," Yatim said.

The Pirates championship season saw the franchise post its best record with an 11-3 mark. They then ran the table with three straight playoff victories, ending the season with an 11-game winning streak.

The Pirates organization publicly thanks Lew Evangelidis, Chair of the Massachusetts Port Authority along with Massport Chief Marketing Officer John Raftery and Megan Noonan, Deputy Director; Administrative Projects and Corporate Events for their efforts in making this event a reality.

The Pirates will also have a championship banner on display at the Worcester Regional Airport as well as being represented in a sports video montage.
