Lancaster Stormers News Release

Added to the list of accomplishments of the 2012 Lancaster Barnstormers was the first 20-win calendar month in franchise history.

It came in the form of an 11-4 victory over the Somerset Patriots Tuesday evening at Td Bank Park.

Fehlandt Lentini led the charge, going 4-for-5 with a homer, double, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Ryan Harvey, Travis Denker and Kody Kirkland also connected for the Barnstormers, who won for the fifth time in the last six games.

Harvey slammed a two-run homer, his 18th of the season, to dead center in the top of the second as the Barnstormers jumped ahead of Justin Cassel (5-9). Lancaster added two more in the fourth on back-to-back, bases loaded singles by Kyle Haines and Adam Godwin.

The next two half-innings ultimately decided the game. Somerset loaded the bases on three consecutive one-out singles in the bottom of the fourth off John Halama (11-7). He got Freddie Bynum to ground into a 3-2 force play at home for the second out. Yunesky Sanchez' grounder up the middle was flagged by Gilberto Mejia and turned into an inning ending force at home, getting Halama out of the jam.

Lancaster then put on a power show in the top of the fifth off Cassel, who had allowed only five homers in 124 innings prior to Tuesday's performance. Blake Gailen led off the inning with a single and rode home in front of Lentini's blast over all three tiers of signs in left. One out into the inning, Harvey doubled over the head of left fielder Rian Kiniry. Denker completely left the yard with his second homer in two games for an 8-1 lead, and Kirkland delivered the knockout blow with another long home run to left.

Halama took an 11-1 lead into the bottom of the eighth but failed to get an out. He hit Jesse Hoorelbeke, and Jeff Nettles followed with the third of his four hits in the game. Adam Donachie chased Halama with a double to deep left. Ching-Lung Lo entered the game and allowed one more run to score in the eighth on a Joe Holden single. Nettles drove in an additional run in the ninth.

The third game of the series comes up on Wednesday night. Lancaster will send J.D. Durbin (10-9) to the hill against lefty Chase Wright (4-1), who will make a spot start. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.
