Barnstormers Fall In Finale, 7-5
August 12, 2021 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
For the second time in as many games at York, the Lancaster Barnstormers made a valiant late inning comeback effort.
On Tuesday, it was enough. On Thursday, it was not.
York built a 5-0 over the first two innings against Augie Sylk (2-4). The Revs picked up three straight singles against the lefty in the first, with Nellie Rodriguez' base hit to left picking up the run. In the second, Andrew Dundon walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Jack Kenley singled home York's third run with a grounder off the glove of a lunging Kelly Dugan. Rodriguez capped the scoring with a two-run single off the wall down the right field line.
The Barnstormers did counter with three in the top of the fourth on their only three hits in the first seven innings. Singles by Blake Gailen, Trayvon Robinson and Anthony Peroni produced Lancaster's first run. Then, with the bases loaded and two outs, Cleuluis Rondon rapped a grounder to second baseman Kenley. His flip to short was dropped by Osmy Gregorio, who then made a wild throw past Rodriguez at first as two runs crossed the plate.
Newcomer Cameron Gann got Lancaster out of trouble in the fourth, picking up a double play grounder on his first Atlantic League pitch. The right-hander kept the Revolution off the board until the seventh when Tyler Hill's liner to the box eluded his grasp, and his desperation throw to first was wild as two runs scored.
LeDarious Clark belted a two-run homer to right center in the eighth, and Caleb Gindl drilled a double to the gap in the ninth, but Jim Fuller was able to close the door from there for his 16th save.
Duke von Schamann (4-5) made the start for York and beat the Barnstormers for the third time this season.
Lancaster opens a three-game series against the Long Island Ducks on Friday. The Barnstormers will send right-hander Nile Ball (1-2) to the hill against right-hander Vin Mazzaro (1-3). Fans may follow the game on the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:30.
NOTES: The Barnstormers were unable to match their season-high winning streak of four games...Clark's homer was his third in nine at bats...Lancaster has 28 runs on 26 hits over the last four games...Gindl's double was his 39th extra base hit of the season...The Barnstormers lead the War of the Roses, 10-8.
