Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers strung together six consecutive hits in the top of the fourth inning, producing five runs en route to an 8-4 win over the Bridgeport Bluefish Friday evening at Harbor Yard.

Lloyd Turner began the string with a smash into left field. Mike Woods singled him to second with a liner to center. A flare into left center by Danny Gonzalez scored Turner with Lancaster's first run of the night. Matt LeCroy loaded the bases with a bloop hit to center. Manny Mejia stroked a two-run single to left for a 3-2 lead, and Lancaster's streak was capped by Greg Blosser's two-run double past the first base bag.

The Barnstormers extended the lead against Barry Hertzler (3-4) in the fourth inning. Kevin Kotch, in his second game as a Barnstormer clubbed a homer to right for a 6-2 edge. Turner followed with his third single of the game and moved up on a ground out by Woods. Gonzalez doubled down the right field line to score Turner, and, in turn, came across on Mejia's ground single to left.

Lancaster was then held at bay for the final 5 1/3 innings by the Bridgeport bullpen.

Eric Ackerman (3-4) won his third straight start for the Barnstormers. He yielded nine hits and four runs in seven innings of work while walking one and striking out five. The night did not get off to a good start for the Barnstormers lefty. He allowed a single to Henry Mateo and double to left by Brandon Florence before getting an out. Both runners scored, but Ackerman kept the Bluefish from putting together a big inning all night long.

Bridgeport threatened in the ninth. With one out, Mateo lined a single to right, and Judd Songster hit Florence with a pitch. Luis Lopez lofted a fly to left for what looked like an easy second out, but Jordan Herr, inserted into the game as a defensive replacement, slipped and went down as the ball dropped for a single to load the bags. Songster fanned defending Atlantic League home run champ Jesse Hoorelbeke on a 3-2 pitch, then struck out Ryan Bear to hold the game.
