Barnstormers Drop Close Game against Danger

DES MOINES, IA- The Iowa Barnstormers fall to (3-3) after close home loss to Nebraska Danger, 46-43 Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

After the Barnstormers started the game with two straight turnovers Nebraska took advantage and found the end zone when quarterback Ben Anderson and receiver Andre London connected in the back of the end zone, giving Danger the lead 7-0. As the first quarter wound down the Barnstormers quarterback Donovan Porterie completed a 37 yard touchdown pass to receiver Lemans Casimier, kicker Josh Gable added the extra point and Iowa tied the game, 7-7.

The Barnstormers defense forced a fourth down and another missed field goal attempt and gave possession back to Iowa. The Barnstormers found themselves deep in their own territory to begin their drive that was capped of when receiver Lucas Hefty took a Porterie pass into the end zone from 3 yards out giving the Barnstormers a 14-7 lead. The following Danger possession was cut short when Barnstormer linebacker Michael Johnson leapt high and pulled down an interception on a pass headed to the end zone. With under a minute left in the half the Barnstormers tore down the field and found the end zone once again when Porterie connected with Hefty for his second score of the game this time from nine yards out, 21-7.

After entering the second half with a 14 point lead in the third quarter the Barnstormers saw their lead slipping away in the third. On Nebraska's first possession of the half they found the end zone by way of 23 yard pass from quarterback Ben Anderson to receiver O.J. Simpson, 21-14. The Barnstormers stretched the lead back to double figures when quarterback Brion Carnes scampered into the end zone from one yard out, 28-14. The Danger offense found the end zone to end the third quarter and pull within one score of the Barnstormers, 28-21.

The Danger closed the gap further finding the end zone through the air on consecutive possessions to start the fourth quarter taking the lead 33-28. The Barnstormers regained the lead on a Casimier reception in the back of the end zone, 36-33. Nebraska returned the subsequent kickoff for a touchdown, 39-36. The Barnstormers followed suit when Casimier took the Danger kickoff back for the score,43-39. Nebraska quickly took the lead on a scramble from Danger quarterback Anderson from one yard out, 46-43. The Barnstormers were unable to find the end zone as the game ended, 46-43.

The Barnstormers (3-3) are back home next week as they take on the Spokane Empire. That game kicks off on April16 at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
