Barnstormers Crush Sugar Skulls

The Iowa Barnstormers (9-6) defeated the Tucson Sugar Skulls (8-7) in Tucson on Saturday night, 61-48.
The Sugar Skulls came out to a red-hot start with a kickoff return from Benjamin Jones. Barnstormers RB Antonio Wimbush answered back with a rushing touchdown to tie the game. An offensively strong first quarter ended with a touchdown from Tucson's Mike Jones and a rushing touchdown from Iowa's Zac Parker. The Barnstormers led heading into the second quarter, 14-13.
Mike Jones started the second quarter with another touchdown run for Tucson. Their QB, Daquan Neal, extended the lead with a successful two-point conversion. Wimbush scored another Barnstormers touchdown on the next possession, but the Sugar Skulls kept their lead after kicker Gabriel Rui missed a PAT. Wimbush scored his third touchdown of the night, but Tucson's Quinton Pedroza answered back to give the Sugar Skulls a 28-26 halftime lead.
Iowa's defense was able to hold Tucson scoreless in the third quarter. Two more touchdowns for Wimbush put the Barnstormers ahead 39-28 heading into the final quarter.
A defensive touchdown from Marshaun Jones extended the Iowa lead to 46-28. Desperate for a score, Tucson took over and received six points from a Raheem Harvey TD. Wimbush and Pedroza exchanged touchdowns for both teams. A successful two-point conversion by the Sugar Skulls left the score at 53-42 with three minutes left in the game. Wimbush sealed the game with his seventh touchdown of the night and the Barnstormers prevailed, 61-48.
The Iowa Barnstormers will travel to the TaxSlayer Center to face the Quad City Steamwheelers next weekend for their final game of the regular season.
