Barnstormers Cruise To Win At Harbor Yard

The Lancaster Barnstormers love Saturday nights in Bridgeport.

Two weeks after sweeping a doubleheader against the host Bluefish on their turf, the Barnstormers swamped Bridgeport, 12-1, this Saturday evening at Harbor Yard.

Lenny DiNardo fired seven strong innings to earn the win, leveling his record on the season at 4-4. The left-hander yielded seven hits, all singles, while walking two and striking out five. He was scored upon in the bottom of the sixth when Daniel Mayora and Austin Krum opened the inning with singles, and consecutive high choppers in the infield resulted in force plays at second. DiNardo survived an additional scare, striking out James Simmons with the bases loaded.

The Barnstormers scored all the runs they needed with two outs in the second off Josh Butler (3-5). Olmo Rosario ignited the uprising with a single to left. He went to second on a wild pitch, and Austin Gallagher filled in first base with a walk. Gustavo Molina drove in Rosario with the first run with a smash up the middle. Matt Spencer drilled a double over Krum's head in left for a 2-0 advantage, and Jerry Owens capped the inning with a two-run single to right, extending his hitting streak to 15 games.

Lancaster scored on fifth run in the third inning when Brandon Chaves fumbled a potential double play grounder following singles by Travis Denker and Daryle Ward.

Spencer and Owens opened the fourth inning with singles, and the Barnstormers would go on to score four more runs as Butler lost the strike zone, eventually forcing two runs home. The injured starter was replaced by Kanekoa Texeira with one out and the bases loaded. He got Rosario to stroke another grounder to short. Chaves fed Mayora, but the relay to first sailed out of bounds, allowing two runs to score.

Rosario clubbed a leadoff homer off newcomer Alex Hinshaw in the seventh. The left-hander walked two, hit a batter and was charged with a wild pitch following the homer, enabling the Barnstormers to score two more.
