Barnstormers Complete Sweep of Blue Crabs

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release


(Lancaster PA, September 16th 2015) ---Southern Maryland checked into the night 7-10 this season against Lancaster, and having lost seven of the last nine game against Lancaster. The Barnstormers completed the sweep tonight with the 7-5 victory over the Blue Crabs who have now lost five straight games.

For the second consecutive night, Southern Maryland scored two runs in the top of the first highlighted by a Casey Stevenson two run homerun. Lancaster countered with a run in the bottom of the first on a Lance Zawadzki sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.

Each team exchanged runs in the third, and seventh innings. With the Blue Crabs ahead 5-3, Lancaster scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth off of RHP Justin Berg. With the bases loaded, Kevin Rivers stepped to the plate and ripped a single to center to score Kent Matthes. Anderson Feliz followed by lashing a single to left to score Yusuke Kajimoto, and Luke Hughes. Kevin Rivers would then come around to score on a Juan Apodaca fielder's choice.

Both starting pitchers did a nice job for the respective teams. RHP Jon Leicester went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits for Southern Maryland. LHP Nate Reed pitched six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Southern Maryland outhit Lancaster 10-9. Zach Wilson went 3-4, with an RBI and two runs scored. Zach has now banged out 62 hits in his last 40 days. Meanwhile Jovan Rosa and Casey Stevenson each had two RBIs. On the flip side, Anderson Feliz, and Juan Apodaca each drove in two runs for Lancaster.

Southern Maryland continues their seven game road trip tomorrow evening in Bridgeport. The first pitch is set for 7:05. RHP Cory Riordan (5-5, 3.75) will start for Bridgeport, and RHP Daryl Thompson (6-7, 4.11) will toss for Southern Maryland.
