Lancaster Stormers News Release

Three Road Warriors right-handers combined to shut out the Lancaster Barnstormers on merely two singles on Wednesday evening as the travel squad picked up a 2-0 victory at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Cuba native Albert Rodriguez, making his third start for the Road Warriors, yielded the two hits and four walks over his seven innings of work. Mariel Checo missed with his first six pitches but ultimately kept the Barnstormers at bay in the eighth. Jose Ortega shut down Josh Bell, Blake Gailen and Jimmy Paredes in succession in the ninth for his second save.

Rodriguez (1-1) walked the first two batters of the game, putting Darian Sandford and Bell aboard in the first inning. Gailen bounced into a 3-6 force play as Edwin Gomez stayed with a tricky hop. Paredes struck out, and K.C. Hobson popped to short to end the threat.

Lancaster did not get another runner into scoring position until the eighth inning when Vladimir Frias walked and stole second before the first out. Anderson De La Rosa lined to center, Rico Noel struck out, and Sandford's looper to center was snagged by Jorge Fernandez-Diaz with a sliding catch.

Trayvon Robinson and Gailen picked up the singles for the Barnstormers.

Fernandez-Diaz put the visitors ahead with a two-out solo home run off Joe Gardner (3-8) in the first inning. Gardner did not allow another run until the eighth when Melvin Rodriguez-Ortiz doubled deep to right center, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Osvaldo Martinez' lined single into left.

Gardner threw the longest start by a Barnstormer this season. He allowed five hits and two runs while walking one and striking out three.

Lancaster and the Road Warriors meet in the rubber game of the series on Thursday evening. Nate Reed (8-3) will make the start for the Barnstormers against one-time Lancaster hurler Mike Lee (2-7). Fans may tune into BRC-11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.

NOTES: RHP Scott Shuman had his contract purchased by Oaxaca of the Mexican League earlier in the day...Both Road Warriors wins in the season series have come on shutouts...Lancaster was shut out for the seventh time this season.
