Lancaster Stormers News Release
The York Revolution moved within one game of bringing the Community Cup back to the west side of the Susquehanna River on Friday evening with a 10-1 thrashing of the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 5,611 at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
York now leads the season series, 10-2, and needs one more win to recapture the cup from Lancaster.
The Revolution got to Lancaster starter Josh Hall (9-3) for seven runs in the second, ending Hall's eight-game winning streak. James Shanks started the inning with a bouncing single through the left side on the first pitch of the at bat. Ian Bladergroen was hit by a pitch, and Vic Rodriguez walked to load the bases. John Pachot then hit a topper in fair territory just up the third base line. Octavio Martinez pounced on the ball and lunged back at Shanks but missed the tag as Shanks scored.
Chuck Jeroloman continued the surge with a two-run single to left center. Scott Grimes was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. A fourth run scored as Erold Andrus chopped into a 4-6 force play. Ramon Castro sliced a two-run double past Michael Woods into right center for a 6-0 lead. He would eventually score on a wild pitch.
Lancaster tried to fight back against Derell McCall (7-3) in the third. Joe Gaetti launched a homer over the high wall in left, his 10th of the season. Octavio Martinez laced a single down the right field line, and Bryant Nelson doubled to right. That was as far as the offense would get, managing only two hits, both by Reggie Taylor the rest of the night.
The Revolution scored their final three runs in the sixth. Jeroloman and Grimes were both walked by Pat Overholt. Andrus followed with an RBI single to right and scooted to second on a late throw home. Castro drove in two more with a single lined into left center. Another single to left was stroked by Herrera before Overholt and Ross Peeples could pitch out of the inning.
The two clubs meet on Saturday evening at 7:00 for the third game of the series. Sean Thompson (1-6) will make a spot start for Lancaster. He will be opposed by lefty Jesus Sanchez (6-4).
