Bridgeport drops second straight to Camden

Bridgeport, Conn. - The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 5-4 Friday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Camden's successful fourth inning put the Riversharks in front of the âFish by three runs. Chris Malec and Brian Burgamy put together back-to-back singles to begin the inning, and Garrett Guzman drove the third consecutive base hit into the outfield to bring home Malec. Burgamy crossed the plate on a Richie Robnett groundout, and Raul Padron picked up a double, scoring Guzman.
The Bluefish answered back with one run in the bottom half of the frame. Josh Phelps hit a single into left to bring Danny Putnam to the plate. Putnam powered a double to left center, giving Phelps the opportunity to score from first.
Following an hour-long rain delay, Bridgeport took the lead from Camden in the fifth inning. The rally began with a single hit by Luis Rodriguez, and continued on Adam Greenberg's base hit bunt. Brandon Chaves followed with a sacrifice bunt that caused the Camden's pitcher to commit an error, allowing Rodriguez and Greenberg to score. Chaves marked the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly delivered by Steve Moss.
The ninth inning became key for the Riversharks as the team scored two to steal the win from the âFish. Richie Robnett got on base due to a Bridgeport error to start the inning off, and moved to third on Raul Padron's single to right. Teuris Olivares drove in Robnett with a single up the middle to tie the game. Representing the game-winning run, Olivares reached third on a wild pitch and then continued on to cross the plate for the win, courtesy of a base hit from Malec.
Camden's two unearned runs dealt the loss to Bridgeport's Jorge Julio (0-1), who pitched one inning with one walk and two strikeouts. Bridgeport starter Kevin Mannix worked through the hour-long rain delay to give the Bluefish six strong innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out three.
Tim Bittner (1-2) worked through one inning to earn the win for the Riversharks, while striking out one batter. Riversharks closer Tracy Thorpe recorded his eighth save of the season with a perfect ninth frame. Camden starter Ben Davis did not make it through the rain delay, lasting four innings, allowing one run on four hits and two while, while striking out four.
The Bluefish play the third game of their four-game series against the Camden Riversharks tonight at 6:05 p.m. Come out and celebrate "Christmas in July" at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, presented by The Salvation Army. A holiday theme will encompass the ballpark with special promotions and prizes as the Bluefish take on the Bears. Make sure to look in your closet and bring your unused wardrobe to the stadium to help the Bluefish and The Salvation Army during a special clothing drive.
