Barnstormers Announce Roster Moves

LAKELAND, Fla.-Infielder Danny Gonzalez has returned to the Lancaster Barnstormers after a brief stay with the Oaxaca Guerreros of the Mexican League, it was announced today by team officials.

Gonzalez, who originally joined the Barnstormers in 2005, will enter his fourth season with Lancaster. The former fourth round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies has a career average of .294 with the Barnstormers and ranks among the career leaders in most offensive categories.

Last year, he hit .292 with 16 homers and 67 RBIs and was the starting shortstop for the Southern Division in the Atlantic League All-Star Game which was held at Clipper Magazine Stadium. He went 2-for-3 in the game. Gonzalez started the first 102 games of the 2007 season for the Barnstormers before finally sitting on August 25. By the end of the season, he played in 122 of the Barnstormers 124 games.

In addition, the Barnstormers have acquired RHP Jud Songster from the Camden Riversharks for future considerations. Songster, 28, spent the first seven seasons of his professional career in the Colorado Rockies organization after being drafted in the 17th round in 2001. The native of North Platte, Neb., spent last season with the Class AA Tulsa Drillers, where he was a teammate of current Lancaster starting pitcher Zack Parker. Songster was 5-5 with two saves and a 4.30 ERA, primarily in relief.

To make room on the roster, RHP Derek Forbes was given his unconditional release.

The Barnstormers annual media day and open workout with be held on Thursday, April 24. A time for the event has not yet been determined.
