Barnstormers Add Key Component to Coaching Staff

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers finalize their 2015 coaching staff with the addition of defensive coordinator Brian Schmidt, Head Coach Joe Brannen announced today.

Schmidt comes to the Iowa Barnstormers following a championship season with the Erie Explosion of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) where he served as an assistant coach. With over eighteen years of coaching experience, Schmidt has spent the last eight seasons in indoor football as head coach, director of football operations, and as a coordinator. He began his indoor coaching career in 2009 with the Marion Mayhem (CIFL), but quickly advanced being named the head coach and director of football operations for the Northern Kentucky River Monsters in 2011. In addition, Schmidt spent the 2013 season with the Owensboro Rage.

"I am excited to have Coach Schmidt join us here in Iowa," said Brannen. "His experience in the indoor game, creative football mind, and leadership will provide our team versatility on the defensive side of the ball. He will have our defense "˜flying' on the field each game night."

The Iowa Barnstormers 2014 Open Tryout Camp is scheduled for November 1, 2014 in Pella, Iowa. Attendees must be 18 years of age or older, non-college eligible, and interested in playing professional indoor football.
