Barnstormers Add Defensive Back

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have signed defensive back Freddie McGee III to the 2023 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.

McGee III (5-8, 175, Eastern Michigan) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his rookie Indoor Football League (IFL) season. Collegiately, McGee III spent five years at Eastern Michigan University after redshirting his freshman season. During his time with the Eagles, McGee appeared in 47 games collecting 85 total tackles, one interception, two fumble recoveries, and 1.5 tackles for loss. In addition to his success on the field, McGee III earned Academic All-MAC honors twice and earned a scholarship during fall camp of his sophomore season after earning his way on to the team as a walk-on. McGee III was also named 4th Team Pre-Season All-MAC ahead of his final collegiate season.

"Freddie is an elite athlete, both his parents were also Division I athletes so it's in his blood," said Head Coach Mogensen. "He put together a very accomplished career at Eastern Michigan and had a very impressive pro day. After being passed over initially by the NFL, Freddie is very motivated to get back on their radars. We love the versatility he shows as a defensive back, he has all the traits necessary for success, and should be able to compete immediately at any of the four positions."

McGee III will enter the Barnstormers 2023 Training Camp in the Spring.
