
Barney Facing Abdominal Surgery

MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have scheduled abdominal surgery for right wing Scott Barney, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced on Wednesday. Barney, 25, has not appeared in a Monarchs game this season. The 6-foot-4, 208-pound native of Oshawa, Ontario, also did not participate in Monarchs training camp prior to the 2004-05 season.
Barney, selected in the second-round (29th overall) by the Kings in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, is expected to have the abdominal surgery next week in Montreal, Quebec. His rehabilitation period following surgery is expected to last 10 weeks.
In 19 games with the Kings last season, Barney collected five goals, 11 points (5-6=11) and four penalty minutes. He registered an additional 20 goals, 34 points (20-14=34) and 28 penalty minutes in 44 games with the Monarchs in 2003-04.
Barney has five goals and 11 points (5-6=11) in 24 career NHL games â all with the Kings. He also has 33 goals and 52 points (33-19=52) in 106 career AHL games with the Monarchs and the Springfield Falcons.
The Monarchs return to action on Friday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. when they meet the Falcons at the Springfield Civic Center. After Friday's game, the Monarchs will host the Hershey Bears on Saturday, November 13 (7:35 p.m.) and the Falcons on Sunday, November 14 (4:05 p.m.) at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Eight hundred tickets remain for Saturday's game against the Bears and 1,450 tickets remain for Sunday's contest with the Falcons.
