Hershey Bears News Release

The Wolfpack lose for the first time in ten games to start the season as HERSHEY pours it on with three goals in the first period and win in a rout 4-1.

The BEARS exploded for three first period goals, with the first tally coming off of the stick of Mathieu Darche. Darche picked up his sixth goal of the season at the 7:51 mark of the first against Jason LaBarbera to give HERSHEY the 1-0 lead. After Hartford's Bryce Lampman scored to tie the game at 1-1, the BEARS got goals from Chris Bala and Andre Savage to take a 3-1 lead into first intermission. The goal for Darche gave him goals in three straight dating back to Saturday's game with Providence, and Bala's goal was his first point since October 15.

Goaltender Steve Valiquette replaced LaBarbera to start the second period for Hartford. LaBarbera made just seven saves on ten HERSHEY shots in the first period after bringing a 0.82 goals against average into the game Valiquette surrendered an even strength goal to Marek Svatos at the 5:36 mark of the second for the only goal of the period. Eric Perrin picked up his second assist of the game on the odd man rush goal.

HERSHEY would win the game going away after a scoreless third period. Budaj won his third game of the season, while Mathieu Darche was named the game's number one star.

The BEARS will return to action Friday night for game two of its current five-game road trip in Providence. Face-off Friday night is at 7:05 p.m.
