Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

SAN ANGELO - Behind a strong outing from San Angelo starting pitcher Chandler Barnard, the Colts defeated the WhiteWings 7-4 Tuesday night at Foster Field.

Allowing just two runs in seven innings, Barnard picked up his ninth win of the year, dropping his ERA to 3.57 - third best in the North American League.

The WhiteWings (41-29) move three games back behind the San Angelo Colts (44-26) as the 'Wings lost for just the third time in 13 games.

After the WhiteWings grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, courtesy of Leivi Ventura's team-leading 17th homerun, the Colts responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back. Taking a 4-1 lead thanks to RBIs from Trey Carter, Mark Ramos and Ronnie Gaines, the Colts grabbed a lead they never surrendered.

A Landon Camp homerun in the third inning and another RBI from Trey Carter in the fifth extended the Colts lead to 6-1.

Alexis Hernandez cut into the deficit when he led off the seventh inning with his fifth homerun of the year, making the score 6-2. That was all the runs Barnard gave up on the night.

The Colts responded the next half inning when an error allowed Camp to score all the way from second base, giving the Colts a 7-2 cushion.

The WhiteWings tried to come back in the top of the ninth, but only managed two runs. The first three batters reached base, but San Angelo closer Sean Kramer came on to retire all three batters he faced, recording his seventh save and preserving a Colts' win.

The WhiteWings are back in action Wednesday night against the Colts when Eddie Dennis Jr. (1-1 7.49 ERA) is expected to take the mound against Colts starter Brian Henschel (7-5 4.78 ERA).
