EDINBURG, Texas - The McAllen Thunder hit three home runs in the top of the fourth to power past the Edinburg Roadrunners 9-5 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Thunder (29-42) grabbed the lead in the top of the third. Eric Eiland led off the inning with a double and then came into score on an RBI single by Antoin Gray making it 1-0.
In the top of the fourth, McAllen hit three home runs off of Edinburg starter Toro Trevino (4-5) and took the 7-0 lead.
The Roadrunners (27-44) responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth. C.J. Beatty hit a lead-off triple and then Robert Matlock delivered an RBI single making it 7-1 McAllen.
Back-to-back singles in the bottom of the fifth put two runners on for Beatty who then hit a three-run home run, his 13th of the season. Osiel Flores walked with two outs and then came around to score on an RBI double by D.J. Dixon that made it 7-5.
Kurt Houck (4-7) allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out 10 in seven innings of work.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth when the Thunder extended their lead with an RBI double by Mike Goss that allowed Gray to score from first. A fielding error then allowed pinch-runner Cody McMorris to score from third pushing the score to 9-5.
Justin Jordan picked up his third save of the season after he entered the game with the tying run on deck and keeping Edinburg off the scoreboard giving McAllen the 9-5 victory.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play game three of their four-game series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (0-1) is expected to face Adrian Garza (2-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
