San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas---Pitching was the story of the game for the second straight night at Foster Field, only this time it favored the Colts. Right-handed starter Chandler Barnard picked up his ninth win of the season and third baseman Landon Camp went deep for San Angelo as the Colts beat the Rio Grande Valley White Wings 7-4 Tuesday night to split the first two games of a four game series.
Rio took an early lead, when Leivi Ventura (17) led off the second inning with a solo home run, but San Angelo answered in its half of the inning. Clay Calfee, Clint Stroud and Trey Carter hit three straight singles to start the bottom of the second and bring in one run. After Danny Hernandez struck out Mark Ramos doubled to bring in another run, Ronnie Gaines singled to plate one more and Ramos eventually scored on an error to make it 4-1 Colts.
Camp (16) added a run with a solo homer in the third and San Angelo scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Meanwhile, Barnard was mowing down White Wings' hitters. He allowed just six balls to be hit in the air and recorded three double play balls.
Overall, Chandler (9-2, 3.57) pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs (both on solo homers) on eight hits, while walking one and striking out six. Rio starter David Cross (2-5, 8.78) was hit with the loss in just his second appearance for the White Wings and Sean Kramer (12) earned the save.
The third game of the series is Wednesday night, when San Angelo will send RHP Brian Henschel (7-5, 4.78) to the mound against the White Wings' RHP Eddie Dennis Jr. (1-1, 7.49). The first pitch is at 7:05. For tickets call 94-COLTS or visit sanangelocolts.com.
