VISALIA - The San Jose Giants will have to wait at least one more day before they can celebrate a first half North Division title. The Rawhide dominated from start to finish, as they won the series opener over their division foes on Thursday night at Rawhide Ballpark by a score of 9-3.

Rawhide starter Andrew Barbosa (W, 4-3) was regnent in his second outing against the Giants. He tossed 6.0 innings of one run ball, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out nine Giants batters.

Catcher Steven Rodriguez led the Rawhide offense, as they drubbed Giants pitching all night long. Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a 2B and a HR, driving in three runs, as he fell just a 3B shy of the illusive cycle.

The Rawhide really broke things open in the 6th inning, already having scored four runs off Giants starter Jose Casilla (L, 1-2) . After the two-run shot from Rodriguez, Evan Marzilli and Kevin Medrano doubled and singled respectively to keep the rally going. David Nick capped off the scoring with a two-run homer to right off reliever Danny Sandbrink to blow it open to 9-1.

Patrick Schuster threw a perfect 7th inning of relief.Matt Sample was solid out of the 'pen as well, as two runs would come across for the Giants after an error from the shortstop Raul Navarro to provide the final score of 9-3.

With the win, the Rawhide are now three games back of the Giants with three more to play against their division rivals in the first half of the season. Can the Rawhide keep their first half North Division Title hopes alive? Find out on Friday night at 7 pm at Rawhide Ballpark! Get into the game FREE when you wear a Rawhide t-shirt.
