VISALIA - The San Jose Giants were held to a season-low tying three hits in a 9-3 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Thursday evening at Recreation Park. Visalia took the lead for good with a two-run bottom of the fourth before homering twice in a five-run sixth inning to break the game open.

With the loss, San Jose's magic number to clinch the first half North Division title remains at one. The Giants (41-26) now own a three-game lead over the Rawhide (38-29) with three games remaining in the first half. The series continues on Friday night in Visalia.

Eliezer Zambrano (2-for-3) had two of the three San Jose hits to lead the Giants offensively.

Visalia took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Steven Rodriguez delivered a two-out, RBI double off of San Jose starter Jose Casilla.

The Giants managed just one hit over the first three innings against Andrew Barbosa before breaking through in the top of the fourth to tie the game. With one out, Mac Williamson was hit by a pitch before Devin Harris drew a walk. Then with two outs, Shawn Payne lined a single into left to plate Williamson with the tying run. Barbosa recovered to set down the next batter, Bobby Haney, on a pop out to keep the game tied.

The Rawhide then immediately reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth against Casilla. Sean Jamieson led off with a single before a Raul Navarro sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second. Rodriguez followed with an RBI single into center and then Kerry Jenkins blasted an RBI triple into the right center field gap to make it 3-1.

Facing reliever Danny Sandbrink, Visalia added to their lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Kevin Medrano led off with a double, advanced to third on Gerson Montilla's infield single and scored two batters later when Ryan Court grounded out.

The Rawhide then exploded for a five-run bottom of the sixth against Sandbrink to increase their lead to 9-1. After Navarro reached on an error to start the inning, Rodriguez launched a two-run home run to deep right field. The rally continued when Evan Marzilli doubled with one out before Medrano singled. Montilla then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Marzilli before David Nick stepped to the plate and homered to left center. The two-run blast extended the Visalia advantage to 9-1.

The Giants scored twice in the top of the ninth to cut the deficit to 9-3, but still fell well short in the contest. A hit by pitch and two walks loaded the bases with two outs before Brock Bond's grounder to shortstop rolled through the legs of Navarro for an error allowing two runs to score.

San Jose's only hits were leadoff singles from Zambrano in the third and fifth innings and Payne's RBI single in the top of the fourth.

Casilla (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing three runs (all earned) on eight hits over the first four innings. He walked none and struck out five.

Barbosa (4-3) earned the win for the Rawhide after a dominant six-inning start. The left-hander struck out nine with three hits allowed and three walks.
