Bandits Select Irving Ninth Overall In 2010 Draft

BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bandits drafted Travis Irving with the ninth overall pick of the 2010 NLL Entry Draft, and acquired a total of seven new prospects during the draft held in Toronto on Wednesday.

Irving (2/19/1991, 6'4", 200 lbs) is a defenseman who played the last two seasons for the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the BC Junior A Lacrosse League, compiling four points (2+2) and 162 penalty minutes in 31 regular season games. He was named to the 2010 Second All-Minto Team.

In the second round the Bandits traded their 15th selection to Minnesota for the 13th overall pick, and took Ben McCollough (1/20/1988, 5'11", 190 lbs), a SUNY Potsdam field lacrosse midfielder who recorded 33 points (19+14) for the school in 2010. McCullough also played as a transition player for the MSL Brampton Excelsiors in 2010, picking up three points (1+2) and 28 penalty minutes in 14 regular season games.

The Bandits selected Wayne VanEvery with the second of their two second-round picks (21st overall). As a forward with the Six Nations Jr. B Rebels, VanEvery racked up a franchise-record 174 career goals. In 2010, he tied another franchise record with 101 regular season points (52+49) in 19 games.

Buffalo selected three more players from Six Nations, ON with their next three picks. In the fourth round (37th overall), they took defenseman Holdon Vyse of the Six Nations Arrows. Their fifth round pick (47th overall) was Sarnia Jr. Pacers forward Jimmy Purves. In the sixth round, the Bandits selected Six Nations Arrows transition player Elijha Printup 57th overall. They rounded out the draft by acquiring the 60th overall pick from Toronto, using it to select forward Jordan Costa of the Mississauga Tomahawks.
