Chicago Bandits News Release
Elgin - A wild pitch by Venezuelan pitcher Johana Gomez brought Chicago Bandits (7-7) third baseman Stacy May home to score from third base, opening the three run bottom of the first inning for the Bandits.
With an electric performance on the mound by starting pitcher Kristina Thorson (1-4), the Chicago Bandits defeated the Venezuelan Olympic team 6-2 in game two of the international series.
Two batters later, with Lindsay Schutzler on third base, Bandits' first baseman Samantha Findlay broke from her slump by launching an RBI double to left field, putting the Bandits up 2-0. Findlay came around to score later in the inning when Jaime Clark sent a hard grounder past the diving glove of Venezuelan second baseman Yuruby Alicart. The first ended shortly after with the Bandits up 3-0.
Venezuela jumped on the board in the top of the fifth when a bunt attempt brought home Yaicey Sojo from third base, putting the Venezuelans down 3-1. Bandits' pitcher Kristina Thorson buckled down on the mound after that, getting two strikeouts to end the inning.
The Bandits added to their total in the bottom of the fifth when, with one out and Aileen Morales and Lindsay Schutzler on base, Bandits' first baseman Samantha Findlay blasted a three-run homerun - her second homerun of the year - over the centerfield wall, putting the Bandits up 6-1.
Venezuela's bats heated up in the top of the sixth when Maribel Riera sent a liner down the right field line, scoring one with two outs in the inning. Down 6-2 with runners on second and third, Venezuela's Maria Soto was struck out swinging by Thorson to end the inning, putting her strikeout total at eight.
Thorson was electric on the mound, earning the complete game victory with just five hits, two run, and ten strikeouts.
