The River Bandits were held to three hits over 10 innings, and failed to take advantage of Jordan Swagerty's strong start, falling to Kane County 1-0.
Swagerty went seven shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out nine without walking a batter. Angel De Jesus came in to relieve Swagerty in the eighth. De Jesus went two innings, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out one. Hector Corpas (0-2) came into the game in the 10th frame, and retired two batters before allowing a two-out RBI single to Cougar second baseman Yowill Espinal to end the game.
Cougar starter Leondy Perez worked five innings and allowed only two hits, while striking out five. Cougar reliever Chase Boruff (1-0) picked up the win by shutting out the Bandits in the 10th before the Cougars plated the winning in the bottom of the inning.
Bandit shortstop Greg Garcia was the only bright spot in the offense, collecting two of the team's three hits on the day. Garcia was 2-3 with two singles.
