January 29, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release
The Baton Rouge Kingfish fell to the Jackson Bandits 4-1 on the strength of Adam Hauser's 33 saves and a goal and an assist from Eric Fortier early in the second period.
Despite playing with a short bench of 12 skaters and two goaltenders, the Kingfish managed to keep the game scoreless through the first period. Jackson took the 11-9 shots on goal advantage to the locker room after one period.
Sean Gillam broke the scoreless tie 37 seconds into the second period as he finished a tic-tac-toe play from the right circle and fired a laser past Niklas Sundberg. Eric Fortier and Jeff Bes added the assists.
The struggling Bandits power play gave Jackson the 2-0 lead midway through the second as Eric Fortier slid the puck through Sundberg's legs for the marker. Darryl Laplante and Reagan Rome added the assists on the goal.
John McNabb beat Sundberg four and a half minutes later to extend Jackson's lead to three goals. Kevin Mackie and Josh Olson added the assists on Jackson's second power play goal of the game.
Jeff Bes added to the Bandits' cushion at the 4:40 mark of the third period as he took a centering pass from Sean O'Connor and buried the puck past Sundberg to give Jackson the 4-0 lead.
Brian Richardson took the puck the length of the ice and set up Jason Norrie's 17th goal of the season to get the Kingfish on the board. Trevor Demmans added an assist on the goal at the 13:43 mark of the period.
The Kingfish could get no closer as Niklas Sundberg made 33 saves in the losing effort. For the sixth straight game, the Kingfish were held off the scoreboard on the power play as they went 0-4 on the man advantage.
The Kingfish are back in action on Friday when they visit Pensacola to take on the Ice Pilots at 7:05 p.m. Catch all the action on Baton Rouge's Best R & B, 104.5 WZRB beginning with the Kingfish pregame show at 6:50 p.m.
