Bandits down Kingfish, 4-1

Bryan Richardson tallied his third shorthanded goal of the contest and Jeff Blair made 40 saves but it was not enough as the Kingfish fell to the Bandits, 4-1.

Jackson jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:10 mark of the first period as Nick Theriault's slap shot from the right point slipped past Kingfish goaltender Jeff Blair. Brent Gauvreau and John McNabb picked up the assists on the goal.

McNabb gave Jackson a two goal lead as he took a centering pass from Jeff Bes and pulled Blair out of the Kingfish net and slipped the puck past the Kingfish goaltender at the 12:10 mark of the first period of play. Gauvreau also added an assist on the goal.

Bryan Richardson got the Kingfish on the board in the second period as he tallied his third shorthanded goal of the season to cut the Jackson lead to one. He slipped an offensive zone draw past the Bandits defenseman on the penalty kill and flipped the puck past Adam Hauser at the 3:06 mark of the middle stanza for the unassisted goal.

Jackson regained the two-goal lead as Scott Kelman took an errant Kingfish clearing pass and fired a slap shot past Blair from the right point. Kevin Mackie added an assist on the goal at the 9:25 mark of the second period.

The Bandits added an insurance goal with four and a half minutes left in the third period as Gauvreau fired a shot that slipped through Blair's legs and trickled into the net. Darryl Laplante and McNabb added the assists on the goal.

The Kingfish return home to the Fish Tank for the first time in two weeks to host the Louisiana IceGators tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. Catch the game on Baton Rouge's Best R & B 104.5, WZRB beginning with the Kingfish pregame show beginning at 3:50 p.m.
